Society of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry was founded in 2014. We serve to promote research in pharmacognosy and its related fields to provide the members with the opportunities, exchange of knowledge and cooperation among relevant societies. SPP currently has over 200 members having academic and industrial profile. The SPP's primary scope covers the physical, chemical, biochemical and biological properties of substances from natural source.
Pharmacogosy is the study of natural product molecules that are useful for their medicinal, ecological, gustatory or other functional properties. The natural species that are source of the compounds under study span all biological kngdoms. Research topics include the search for novel medicinal sources, structure elucidation, chemotaxonomy, genetic analysis, pharmacology and biosynthesis. This is one reason why studying pharmacognosy is a good choice for those who like to work at the interface of many different, but complementary, areas of science that relate to the natural world.
